Antoni Gaudí and the Barcelona Print

As those of you following me on Instagram know, I recently took a trip to Spain and Italy with my family, so I’ve decided to make a print for the places we visited. Like any good vacation, the trip left me refreshed and ready to come home and do something creative!

Our first stop was Barcelona, home to famous architectural genius Antoni Gaudí.

Gaudí was a Spanish Catalan architect whose work was influenced by his love of nature. You can see these influences in the natural forms of his buildings, which are designed in his unique Modernist style.

The Manzana de la Discordia or Block of Discord, is a famous collection of Modernist buildings along the Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona. These buildings showcase the contrasts between different architectural trends of the time. At the end of the block, standing proudly in bright green, is Casa Batlló, by Gaudí.

Inspired by Casa Batlló, I decided that my first European print would be of the Block of Discord in Barcelona. I love the way Gaudí’s organic design contrasts with the more structured Modernist buildings next to it. Now whenever I look at the print, I remember standing on the street in Barcelona, staring up in awe at Gaudí’s architectural wonder.
