This print was inspired by the patterns and colors of the Hmong textiles of Southeast Asia. Hand-carved and hand-printed, this festive three-color print is the perfect addition to any room.
The Hmong people are an ethnic group from the mountainous regions of China, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. They are well-known for their batik textile art, which often consists of brightly colored geometric designs. Patterns are drawn onto hemp fabric with beeswax; the fabric is then dipped in dye, and the wax resists the dye to create a contrasting pattern. The Hmong language does not have a written form, so textiles serve to tell stories and preserve history, as well as adorn household objects.
Original Linocuts are hand carved and hand-printed on Strathmore acid-free heavyweight paper.
